| Since 1959, the St. Charles County Master Plan has been amended several times to better reflect changing circumstances and policies of the fastest growing county in the state of Missouri. The Master Plan evaluates current conditions and future trends to provide a benchmark point of reference with regard to the effective implementation of public policy. The primary goal of the Plan is to balance, on a countywide basis, the competing issues and interests which affect future growth and development patterns within the county. It sets policies, identifies and evaluates community planning goals and areas of community concern. In the final analysis, it provides a long-term vision and basic goals, strategies, policies, and recommendations to help guide the county's future growth and development to better serve our citizens.
When adopted, the Master Plan will be one of the primary tools used to assure the coordinated development of the county, promote the general welfare and prosperity of its people, and set policy regarding the social, governmental, economic, and physical development of the county.
The County Charter requires the review of the Master Plan at least every five years, with the next susupense date being June 30, 2008. In order to facilitate this review and drafting an updated the Master Plan, the County Executive, Steve Ehlmann, has appointed a steering committee of sixteen citizens to oversee this effort. The Master Plan Steering Committee is composed of 2 council members, 3 members of the county administration, and 11 community members.
An importatnt part of the Master Plan review process is providing opportunities for public comment and participation. Multiple opportunities for public comment and participation have been provided via this web site, public forums and participation in a land use planning exercise held in March, 2008. It is our pleasure to present this web site on updating the St. Charles County Master Plan Envision 2020 for your consideration and input.
The Master Plan Steering Committee has prepared a draft plan voted on April 22, 2008 and sent it to the County Council. The Plan within this website is presented in two forms. The first form is more interactive one in which comments can be submitted and maps can be viewed with a click as you read the document. The second form contains the plan in a .PDF format and is in its final formatted style.
