Floodplain Development Permit
Any work done on property within the floodplain requires a floodplain development permit.  Work includes things as minor as sidewalk construction, fence erection on the property, or window replacement or roofing on the home itself.  Other types of development that require a floodplain development permit include but are not limited to the following: earthwork, flatwork, electric work, building construction, and building additions.

To obtain a floodplain development permit, the applicant must apply for a floodplain development permit with the County Division of Planning and Zoning.  A floodplain development permit must be signed by the applicant on the form furnished.  Every such floodplain development permit shall:

1.     Describe the land on which the proposed work is to be done by lot, block and tract, house and street
address, or similar description that will readily identify and specifically locate the proposed structure or
        work.

2.     Identify and describe the work to be covered by the floodplain development permit.

3.     Indicate the use or occupancy for which the proposed work is intended.

4.     Indicate the assessed value of the structure and the fair market value of the improvement.

5.     Specify whether development is located in designated floodway fringe or floodway.

6.     Identify the existing base flood elevation and the elevation of the proposed development.

7.     Give such other information as reasonably may be required by the Director of the Division of Planning
         and Zoning.

8.     Be accompanied by plans and specifications for proposed construction.

9.     Be signed by the permittee or his/her authorized agent who may be required to submit evidence to
         indicate such authority.

10.   Be issued by the Director of the Division of Planning and Zoning or his or her designee.

11.   Be accompanied by a fee as set by ordinance. The fee is not applicable for any reissue of a Floodplain
Development Permit on the same property within a calendar year.

12.   Be valid for the same period as the Building Permit.  In the event there is no Building Permit, the
Floodplain Development Permit will be in effect for two (2) years from the date of issuance.
